Job description
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic General Manager to oversee and manage our transportation and mining operations. Our fleet includes 100 tippers and excavators, and we specialize in the transportation of coal, sand, and other minerals. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring seamless operations, managing client relationships, negotiating contracts, and leading a team to ensure operational excellence and profitability.
Key Responsibilities
- Business Development and Client Relations:
- Identify and approach potential clients in the mining and transportation sectors.
- Negotiate contracts and finalize deals with clients and stakeholders.
- Maintain long-term relationships with existing clients and ensure their satisfaction.
- Oversee the operations of tippers and excavators to ensure efficiency and productivity.
- Set up and manage teams responsible for fleet operations, scheduling, and logistics.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, environmental regulations, and legal requirements.
- Recruit, train, and manage operational staff, drivers, and technicians.
- Develop key performance indicators (KPIs) for teams and ensure accountability.
- Foster a positive and productive work environment.
- Oversee billing, invoicing, and payment collection to ensure timely cash flow.
- Monitor operational budgets and control costs without compromising quality.
- Provide regular financial reports to senior management.
- Identify opportunities for growth and expansion in the transportation and mining sectors.
- Develop strategies to optimize fleet utilization and reduce downtime.
- Implement technology solutions to enhance operational efficiency.
- Address and resolve any operational disruptions promptly.
- Manage risks associated with equipment breakdowns, accidents, or delays.
Qualifications and Skills
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Mining, Logistics, or a related field. MBA is preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in transportation, mining, or logistics, with at least 3 years in a senior management role.
- Skills:
- Strong negotiation and contract management skills.
- Excellent leadership and team management abilities.
- Solid understanding of fleet operations, logistics, and supply chain management.
- Knowledge of mining regulations and safety protocols.
- Proficient in financial management and budgeting.
